DS 4, has had 2 complete meltdowns when I have changed his routine for pre-school

I feel so bad.
He's in pre-school full-time, I have recently finished a contract, so not working, but he is still there as don't want to lose his place. I've just reduced his hours a bit.
So I decided since I'm not working to take him out for the odd morning, to do some nice stuff, just spend some time together.
He's just sobbed for half an hour, because he didn't want to go in. Started off as a tantrum over something he wanted to take in, and then clung on to me.

He rarely has those kind of tantrums, he has tons of confidence and waves me off every morning, no problems.

And now I feel absolutely dreadful.
I was thinking of signing up for some activities with him, taking a couple of half days, but now I'm really not so sure.

If he seems to thrive on a specific routine, why not make a new but predictable routine. Eg every Monday morning he goes to drama/football with you in the morning, then lunch at x cafe and then preschool? So he knows what is happening, and perhaps talk the night about exactly whats going to happen (sequencing) before or in the morning so he knows what's going to happen.

And don't beat yourself up, be kind to yourself. Smile you were/ are doing something lovely for your Ds, he just didn't know quite how to deal with the change in routine.
