Could reflux develop at 10 months?

Hi I am getting quite worried about my DS, he is 10 months and always been a big healthy boy. The last three nights, after his bottles (last thing and early hours) he sounds as though he has got something stuck in his throat, he spends about an hour coughing and gagging and being generally unsettled. He has started doing an enormous burp after the bottles that sounds as though he is going to vomit and there has been a small amount of milk coming up at times too. Then he seems completely fine again in between. He is more off his food at times but again will then eat a normal meal and in the afternoon he takes his bottle without any problems afterwards. It seems odd to only happen sometimes but it is really getting quite worrying. He has once done the coughing during the day but that was not related to feeding. I propped his cot up one end last night which made no difference. I recently also changed him onto a bigger teat size, i thought he could be having it too quickly but dropped back down last night and still it happened.
Anyone got a child with reflux that recongnises these symptoms or anyone any other ideas, it is horrible to listen to and watch. :(
Thanks.
Whizz

I don't think it's very likely that he would develop reflux at his age -it tends to be present from birth and improve with age. I would whizz him along to the doctors just to check.

Have you changed what goes in the bottles - e.g., has he always been on formula?

No changes to formula. I just know I'll take him to the surgery and he'll appear fine and they'll say it's all ok! Wondering about some sort of allergy to bedding perhaps?

my 10 month old had reflux but it got better with age however she has suddenly being very windy again recently. I've been told that when they're teething wind can get worse. She has had two teeth come through recently so that could be true. Perhaps he is teething?

It sounds to me like he may have some sort of bug which is making him cough. Alternatively, it could be something as simple as the air being very dry if you have the heating on a lot in this cold weather - that can make them cough. You could try humidifying the room by putting a tub of water on top of the radiator.

DD2 has just developed reflux at age 10 as a symptom of something else, which they are trying to found out the cause.
