4 week old baby - strange head banging and crying when falling asleep!

Hi, my 4 week old baby does some odd head movements - just wondered if anyone else had experienced this.

When falling asleep she will lift her head and bang it back down repeatedly - she does it so hard it hurts her and she wakes herself up! This goes on for sometime and getting her to fall asleep is sometimes quite tricky.

She also just drifts off then cries suddenly - only for a few seconds, which wakes her up. It takes ages to get her to sleep!!

Any thoughts?

Trying to picture what you mean. I'm afraid I thought you were referring to something my baba does, as she is going to sleep she hits herself on the head with her hands over and over until she drops off. Fine as long as she's wearing scratch mitts!

I don't know anything about this but could it be one of their reflexes? Sometimes DD startles as she is dropping off and sort of 'jumps' in her sleep and that wakes her up a bit. I'm told that goes away after about three months.

I hope someone more useful comes along but wanted to let you know that other babies do some strange things when dropping off too.
