Warm shoes/boots for a (barely) new walker?

Need some advice on how to keep my DS's feet warm, while he learns to walk in this cold weather. I have some cruiser shoes from mothercare, but this weather is just too cold for a thin pair of socks and his cruisers. Still, all the boots I see are big and would be rather difficult for him to manoeuvre in I feel. Any suggestions on what brands to look at? I'd buy some really warm socks if I knew where to look, but can't seem to find those anywhere either. Help!

Have you considered Muddy Puddles? They're kind of soft waterproof pockets for feet, but very warm. If your LO is walking then possibly not so suitable, unless you try with shoes inside?

I'll take a look. Haven't heard of them before, but will do a search. Thanks for the suggestion!

Outdoor sports / camping type place will have really warm socks for children. We have some amazingly thick welly socks that are just a tube with no heel so fit even tiny feet.

Its tricky before they can actually walk as cruisers are so thin. But once they can, I think you do need to go down the big clumpy shoe route as they will be drawn to puddles and you need to be sure their feet will be dry.

I had some great "first shoes" from clarks for DD that were actually warm winter boots. Very cute, they were about size 3/3.5 I think. How old is your DS and what size? I don't think DD could actually walk when she got hers but it was freezing and I figured she'd had enough of cold feet- she was about 14 months old, didn't walk until 18 months by which time it was Spring!! I passed them onto a friend's DD after she'd grown out of them and they were well used second time round too!

If he's not up to walking outside yet, I have some fur-lined boots from www.snugglefeet.com which are lovely for cruising indoors and keeping his feet warm when being carried outside. They are really good value too.

Thanks all. I will take those ideas on board. DS is 12 months + and a size 4 and growing. Not walking yet, but has taken his first steps. My partner found some boots on a LL Bean website, but I wonder if this cold snap will pass by the time they arrive. Think I will definitely look into outdoors shops for the socks, while I decide what boot is best for DS. Today was soooo cold that I have to do something- and fast!
