Social interaction (eye contact & smiles)

My lo is 18 weeks and still rarely makes eye contact & smiles. She is having various tests but I am worried and impatient to find out what might be causing this. Has anyone else experienced this with a baby of this age and what was the outcome?

my youngest didnt smile at this age, and it used to really worry me, if she did smile it was to the bars at the head of my bed!! she is absolutely fine now at the age of 2. i hope all turns out well

My ds had delayed visual maturation and didn't focus on my eyes till around 4 months , or possibly a bit later . Have you asked for a paed referral if you are worried?

Nikkim30 · 30/01/2012 08:04

Yes, she has an eye test booked in for march but it's just all the waiting. I forgot to mention that she has bad reflux so not sure whether this may be linked.

Well my ds has reflux , was very bad and I'm absolutely convinced it has set him back developmentally .

If I was worried I wouldn't wait , go to your gp and I insist on a referral . I expect the appointment is in march as delayed visual maturation sorts itself out around 6 months

Hello my potential adopted child had delayed visual maturation which had gone by 6 months. She is nw slightly short sighted. I hope that everyone here who had this worry had a good outcome. I was wondering if you could let me know what the long term outlook is now a year on?
Thanks

In my experience DVM is a sign of things are amiss .. I wonder how these children are now .
