Bottles to cups!!

When and how did you make the transition from bottles to sippy cups?? My ds is 8 months and has 3-4 bottles per day, first thing, mid morning/mid afternoon and before bed. It didn't even occur to me until now about moving to a cup (although i imagine 8 months is far too early?). I offer him water after lunch and tea from a sippy cup but he's not keen!
Also he falls asleep on his bedtime bottle so i'm guessing (hoping!) that we can keep using a bottle at bedtime for a while yet :-)

I didn't even think about this til DD was about 11mo and was on 3 bottles a day. I offered her her midday milk in a sippy cup but she has only ever taken a few sips (so she ended up dropping that milk feed at 11mo)!

Now at 12mo she still has a bottle morning and night. In a few months I will prob try offering her her morning milk in a cup, but I reckon she will end up dropping that feed at that point, as she is just not that keen on milk in a cup.

For this reason I plan on letting her have her nighttime bottle until she is at least 18mo (we brush teeth after it anyway!)

DD3 is 2y4m and still inordinately attached to her bottles. I breastfed her till a few months ago and relying on the fact that she will eventually grow out of them. It's what everyone does in France and the usual age for giving up bottles seems to be about 3.

there are trainer bottles with soft spouts that are a bit like bottle teats, so I moved onto those from bottles. I have a cupboard full of various beakers/spouts/bottles so my baby likes to sit and sort through them all (while pulling everything out the cupboards) and try them all out. I've only given him cows milk once in a beaker, he's 12months in a few days. He's recently started drinking a lot more water mid morning and mid afternoon if he gets a snack with the rest of the family so sometimes has water+snack instead of milk.

I don't think there are many that stop bottles completely at 12months so don't worry about rushing it. My older 2 were having cold cows milk out a beaker for bedtime around 15months I think, when they were too busy and wriggly to sit and have a bedtime bottle. I gave it to them earlier as well, before the bath.

Thanks all! I'll stick with the bottles for a while yet. Will look into the soft spout cup though and gradually introduce.
