My ds is 7 months, 32 weeks, and now weighs 28lb ! he is gorgeous and lots of others say so, but my hv seems to think he's too big :( i dunno what i can do about this, maybe not feed him every few days ?? lol :) developmentally he's fine and he is drinking 28 oz of milk pr day and having breakfast and lunch, he generally refuses tea. Dh was a huge baby too, but is not a big man, and me being only 5ft and size 12 i think the hv thinks he's too big :(

big babies = all the more to cuddle :) I have a big boy too, he has just turned 1 a few weeks ago and is on the 98th percentile, already he is in 18-24 months clothes. My hv put it down to fine breeding and good feeding Grin

My DS was a big baby and is now a tall toddler - people assume he's 3 or 4, when in fact he's not even two yet!

It used to upset me when he was a baby and people's reactions were always 'wow, isn't he BIG' or 'wow, isn't he HAIRY'. All I wanted was for someone to say 'Ahhh, isn't he CUTE'!!

I'm less bothered now though. He's obviously going to be a tall man, which I see as a definite advantage!

jezebelle · 23/01/2012 19:54

Aww, i'm sure your babies are all gorgeous. Ds is off the chart, well he was plotted on the very top today :) He wears 12-18 month clothes, but they fit him length ways too !

DD was the same. 26lbs at 26 weeks on breastmilk alone. She's 4 now and it became obvious v quickly that she was and is just tall. She's whippet like, muscular and very tall. Still right at the top of the charts but no rolls anymore. Her height/length was always in proportion and the rolls were just because she wasn't mobile yet. Slightly different I know as dd was bf and therefore not 'overfed'.

Not saying your ds is overfed btw, just know it was easier for me to ignore the comments with dd being bf. Our hv was superb thankfully.

Jergens · 23/01/2012 19:59

Bet your babies are super cute! Some babies are just bigger than others! I was huge as a baby. Am now 5' 7" and a size 8 - pretty average! Smile

jezebelle · 23/01/2012 20:14

As i put Natasha, he's off the chart height wise too, he is 78 cm long which is very long, his weight and height correlate. And i'll add my hv doesn't think he's over fed and says his milk intake is normal.

Yup, I have a mini giant. Born in mid 50 centile. Fell off height and weight charts at 5 months. Now at 19 months and walking obsessively he has crept back into the 98 percentile for weight and 86 for height.
Enjoy the joys of having a solid baby to cuddle :)

Oh so good to hear about other 'hefty' babies, I think we should all be proud, better not to be average right? My DS is 12 weeks and already in 6-9 month old clothes, although he was a fairly normal 8lb at birth. I had a similar comment from my HV that he was a little large (weight is on 91st) but he is on 99th lengthwise so I'm going to ignore her and the other parents who gasp when I say he how old he is. He's going to be rugby player/heavyweight boxer proportions I think. MaMattoo is right, more baby to cuddle!

LargeGlassofRed · 23/01/2012 23:40

All my Dc's are big, I even got refered to the hospital with dc2 as she was off the top of the charts got height and weight and the hv thought I was over feeding her!
The hospital were great and took a family history and just said she's going to be very tall.
She's 11 now and 5ft 9.
My twins are 2.5 and huge next to other toddlers they already have size 9 feet!

doughnutty · 24/01/2012 00:18

Bigger is better imho. Ds was/is on the 98th til I stopped caring and using my eyes.

Friends baby was the same, maybe a little bigger. As.a childcare professional, she was unconcerned and actually could see lots of advantages.

Both weaned really easily but neither of us had to worry if they refused a meal. If the were ill they always bounce back quickly compared to their smaller peers who's mums used to fret over every turned away mouthful.

Ds is 2 now and 95cms. Means he's aiming for 6' 2". Dd is 7 months and 75th for weight but off the chart for length. I just make big babies Smile

doughnutty · 24/01/2012 00:20

and started using my eyes.

Tigresswoods · 24/01/2012 09:55

DS was always big. He got ill at 12m & didn't eat for a week & was vomiting up what he did try to eat. We were glad then that he had some reserves to draw on. Don't worry, he'll be fine. Grin

blushingm · 24/01/2012 22:05

Ds was 9lb 3oz when he was born, by 6 days he was 10lb 6oz and by his 6 week check he was 17lb 3oz. Never ever been I'll - he walked at 8mo and has always eaten well but been active too
