Hi, I'm Helen and I'm new here. I wanted to join because I've had issues with my 3 year old in the past and I haven't known what to do. Anyway, I posted your thread to get some advice on some parenting decisions I've made recently. So a few minutes ago I gave my now 4 year old a blowtorch to play with after making some creme brulee. I was shocked to find out a few seconds later that he had set my 1 1/2 year old's dress on fire. As it started to run around the room, crying I though it would be best to ask all of you fine people for help. Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks :)

Have you eaten the creme brulee?

Was the dress from Boden? They have good returns policy.

Helen. I know you've just joined, so here's a little tip - when posting anything that paints you in a particularly bad light as a mother, it's best practice to name change. As you have posted in your real life name, I assume (after all, no one pretends to be a 'Helen'), so you are going to have to change your name in RL as well.

I would open the windows to get the smoke out... Not good for little ones.

I'd say that by the time your child is 1.5 years you should refer to the child as he or she rather than it. Unless you are those people in Scandinavia raising an experimental non-gendered child. In which case don't put the child in a dress as people will assume it is a girl.

Have you considered using a reward chart? For every day your DS doesn't set your DD alight you could put a little star on the chart and when he gains, say, 500, you can buy him a little treat such as a flamethrower/AK57/sausage roll.
