My 9 w/o baby is constantly sucking his hand and my clothes when he's on my shoulder. What does it mean? Do I need to do anything? He must really like the taste of wool. Lol! It's a strange icky taste to start off his tasting life with! That and Mammys hair!

His mouth has a lot of nerve endings (and sucking is also comforting/instinct). He's exploring. Wait till he's sucking his feet in a few weeks...

Normal, just his way of experiencing the world.

Should I give him a soother so he can use this instead of his hand? Haven't used one up to now.

No it's normal :)

I found 10 week old ds sucking the foot of a teddy bear whilst I made his bottle.

Very sweet and perfectly normal Smile

Babies have a string sucking instinct and get alot of comfort from it, you may find that he discovers his thumb soon Smile

Ok, thanks ladies

If you're not adverse to a soother then no harm in trying it.

I know there is debate regarding dummies but just to let you know that I have 4 DC's - 2 had thumbs and two dummies. The thumb suckers are still doing it now on occasion (mainly in their sleep) and they are aged 10 and 16 Grin

Needless to say that the dummies went years ago (just incase you were worried about dummies Wink)

My twins suck each others elbows / knees - anything they can get in their mouth goes in! We tried dummies and they are just not interested - they seem tp prefer the taste of washing powder:)
