Just started walking - shoes indoors?

DD2 has just started walking (rather than cruising) and is doing ten or so steps at a time. Nursery want her to have shoes. I'm happy for her to wear them when they go outside, to protect her feet, but is it better for foot development to be barefoot/socks indoors rather than shoes?

Or is it better to wear those soft soled sort of things like cruising shoes?

I never bothered with shoes indoors.

I wouldn't put her in shoes until her bones have settled a bit more, and she needs to be able to actually feel the floor.

It's not good for their bone growth to restrict in shoes too quickly.

Soft shoes would be my preferred option. They used to advise 6 weeks of walking before shoes.

I should say, we do have DD1s shoes left but I realise how important it is to get them right. Am just loathe to start coughing up £30 every few months to Clarks!

Sorry x post there. So def not the kind with firm soles on... She's only just 1, dont want her to have uncomfortable feet! I guess she may be too little anyway.

So how do I defend this in the face of nursery saying Shoes please?

As long as their sizes match up I would re-use siblings shoes too Blush

But you're right, get measured properly first. Their little feet are so delicate and we don't get spares.

You can buy cruising shoes in Clarkes, or maybe some soft slippers with firm soles as a compromise for now. As long as you don't mind them being worn outside for now?

Am pleased to say we got her measured today and she's too small even for cruising shoes - so will be sticking to the little leather slipper types for now.

Ah well maybe that's for the best. At least you can tell nursery to poke it for now Grin
