Is it possible for my 9 and a half month old to be having tantrums..I dont mean in the way that 2 year olds do..but he has taken to kicking his feet off the ground when I try to get him to do something he doesnt want to do...(like putting his coat on)... he will also cry and throw himself backwards if I try to pick him up if he is in the middle of one of these tantrums...

He is a twin and his brother is the complete opposite..Is this normal? I didnt think it was possible..... what do I do??

Thanks......xx

Absolutely possible. I think my son was about that age when he had his first one because a toy wouldn't do what he thought it should do. Kicking, screaming, crying.

It's all about control and getting their world to work. I did what I do now that he's 2.7...ignore ignore ignore.

Yeah my DD started with them at about 10mo but is worse with them now at 12mo. At the moment she does it everytime she doesn't get her own way. I try to ignore her.

MY DS started tantrums about 9 months - so, yes, normal!

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 12/01/2012 17:08

I wouldn't ignore. Keep your response low key, sure, but ignoring seems a bit harsh! He's tiny still.

I don't completely ignore my 2 year when she's having a tantrum. I just kind of let her know I sympathise, while not giving in, if you see what I mean.

Mine started at 9 months - entirely normal.

oh yes. our tantrums started at 8 months. shes 9mo and geting worse especially if shes chewing something she loves and I take it off her...I bet its going to be hard work

Reenypip · 25/01/2012 00:14

My baby boy is 8 months, nearly 9 months and he also does this. He throws his whole body, flips himself, screams/cries, and he even pinches and bites! I dont know whether he means the pinching or biting or knows he is doing it at this young age.

WetTheMogwai · 25/01/2012 00:24

My 9mo dd does it too, shes doing it right now infact in her cot!

she sits with the legs apart and headbutts the floor while screaming. i cant help but laugh at her to be honest (house covered in thick rugs so she doesnt hurt herself!) but after reading this im going to 'ignore, ignore, ignore'! Grin

Mixed feed DD1 never really got the hang of BF.
I persevered far longer than she wanted to. She throw better tantrums at 5.5 months if I tried to BF her than she did a 2.5 years.
Screaming, kicking and stiffening her back and trying to throw herself back of my knee.
She got bottles only very quickly.
DD2 threw tantrums if you tried to give her a bottle, but not as spectacular she just screamed.
