15 month old -- Hair pulling and Slapping

Hi ladies,

My jolly 15 month old has started slapping and hair pulling his sister. Not sure if we're handling it the right way. We tell him no, don't hit, move his hand away, tell him to say sorry. We've even put him to sit in time out (as much to show his sister that we're treating them both the same, to be honest).

Our daughter didn't ever do this, so it's all very new!

Are we doing the right thing? Any advice?

Thanks.

My DS2 did this - it was new to me too as my DS1 and DD never did. I tried everything you have mentioned but nothing worked! It was a very frustrating time, but I think they are still a bit young at 15m to understand. You must keep being firm (as you say, partly for the sake of his older sister). When my DS2 reached 2 I found that disciplining methods (time out etc) were more effective. He's now 27m and these incidents are rare.

Thanks, that was such a great answer, it has made me feel more confident about what we're doing. :)

Dd is 15 months and she does this too.

Her brother has just turned 5 so he's old enough to understand that she gets treated age appropriately.

We move her away from ds and give him attention. That's all. She's only a baby.
