Worried FTM - 7mo not babbling

My DS is 7 mo next week. He hasn't yet babbled at all - by this I mean bababa, dada etc. He makes a lot of noise generally, screeching, shrieking, yelling and generic vowel sounds. He does this when moaning, excited and in response to us. He also does a fake cough to get our attention. He has recently started making 'pfff' and 'ffff' shapes with his lips and pushing air through them (IYSWIM) but not with any noise.

He laughs and smiles all the time, he plays peekaboo etc and responds to us. He sits up and is very into his food. What else.... He is showing no signs of crawling yet. He rolled over very early at 13 wo and did it incessantly for a month or so. Now shows no interest in doing so.

I'm just freaking out because both of my DH's sister's kids are ASD and I read somewhere that this could be a sign. I hope I'm worrying about nothing, do you think I am?

I really don't think you have anything to worry about - my DS didn't start proper babbling until around 8 months - and now he doesn't stop! It just happens, overnight. And he didn't crawl until 10.5 months. Honestly, your DS is well within normal ranges, so try not to make associations (hard, I know).

My 9 mo DD doesn't babble either (or crawl). My HV said that if she isn't babbling by 10 months they will refer her for a hearing test. However I know my DDs hearing is good and it sounds like your DS's hearing is fine too. Otherwise didn't seem too worried about her.

She also rarely rolled over too. Now she rolls over to get from lying to sitting so only when she was able to do that did rolling have a purpose for her.

Its good that he sits, I know a few 7 mo who can't sit up yet. Was he an early sitter? My DD was which reassures me when I worry about the other milestones.

I'm trying not to worry about it as what will be will be and they will all get there.

I second things happening overnight. Suddenly they can just do something out of nowhere and you have no idea how they learnt it!

Thanks for your responses, it's reassuring to know there are other non-babblers out there!

He has been sitting up for about a month and a half now, obviously with decreasing amount of wobbles. He now rarely topples over (but it does happen sometimes if he gets too enthusiastic with a toy or something).

Other than the babbling, his milestones have been fine. I think I am just super aware because of my DH's niece and nephew. I did worry a lot when he stopped rolling over, in case he was regressing but HV told me he was probably just working on something else instead. I am a natural worrier though. Sad

Sorry, meant to add - yes am sure his hearing is fine. He reacts to noises and responds to his name and wakes up at the slightest bloody sound.

DD never babbled until she turned 8 months. On that day she suddenly started gagaga and dadada. But nothing before. She's never rolled either. But she can now almost crawl and is trying hard to pull to standing so I'm sure she's fine.
