I have noticed that my 3 year old makes poor eye contact when he is talking to me, rarely looks straight at me. Never notice d it with my other children

my dd is like this and when I'm explaining something and ask her to look at Mummy's eyes she does then looks away until I insist (usually if I'm explaining the plan for the day that includes something fun but I need to know she's listening). She didn't focus on me as a newborn and I was told newborns are like that but my dtds are now 17wo and have focused on me brilliantly from birth, gazing into my eyes - I love it - and they were prem.

In all other ways dd is alert and very bright (according to nursery). I always get the feeling she's looking around and taking everything in and she's good at watching me demonstrate stuff and then copying, just not the eye contact thing.... now I'm worried, I hadn't really thought about it before.

My eldest DS was the same, so can offer you results of my experience. He has mild aspergers, and was v v short sighted (discovered at age 4) - maybe you could consider either or both of these? Maybe health visitor or gp could advise you?

I have problems with my vision (glasses corrected) and struggled to focus on faces -I would get her eyes checked as it may be something as simple as needing glasses

Thanks. Will get his eyes checked. Think I am over worrying, he does like to line things up and a ' friend' said ooo watch that he may be autistic. My nephew has aspergers , so am aware of condition. My ds is very affectionate and not bothered with a change in routine like my nephew is/was.
