My DD is a gorgeous, loveable baby and when we are at home or she's with my mum she hardly every cries but she has quite bad stranger anxiety-even with family she doesn't see very much. I get stressed out at the thought of going to see family or friends because I know what her reaction is going to be. Why isn't me being there and holding her enough to calm her down? When will she grow out of it and has anyone got any tips to help? We've tried telling friends and family to ignore her and allow her to get used to them but whenever we go near someone she doesn't know she panics and cries.

Hello.

My 2nd child - DD - was very very nervous from 7 months onwards. Even when dad took her. She would ball whenever I left her. It was very upsetting to see. She did outgrow it but is still cautious around new people - aged 5. However, she is very confident and utterly delightful socially.

It is hard, but my advice would be don't avoid situations but at the same time don't push her. For example - if you are in a room full of family - let her relax on your lap. Don't pass her around for people to hold. If she is happy in your arms then start with that. You will get lots of people butting in and trying to get you to 'teach her' or 'take her' but really respect her. Just sweetly smile and say she is a bit shy. There's no hurry and she will be fine!

Totally normal at that age, should grow out of it with no problem

Is she crawling yet? I found with my daughter that putting her down with some toys on her own away from the strangers then letting her integrate in her own time stopped it.
