Help me figure out what my 9 month old is telling me!

He's started making a gesture that I can't figure out. He puts his arm out and rubs his fingers together and the look in his eyes tells me he's telling me something. The rubbing of fingers together is what he does with his food when he's got some in his hands...could he be asking me to give him food?? Or could he be trying to snap his fingers or asking me to snap mine? He loves watching my hand when I snap my fingers. I hate that I don't know what he's saying!!!

Have you tried giving him food when he does it? Or maybe he is just copying you if he has seen you snapping your fingers.

Yes, this morning when he did it I gave him his breakfast and he seemed really happy eating it. Then later this morning he did it to DH and he reckons it means he wants to be picked up/carried...I feel like i should instinctively know what he wants and it breaks my heart a little that the first gesture he's made to us we can't figure out :(

My ds did the same thing around 9 months, it meant that he wanted 'more' of whatever he had, he's 3 now and when he asks for more he subconsciously still does this, does your ds attend nursery at all? Some nurseries practise sign language or something called 'makathon' so he may have picked it up elsewhere!
