Hmmm when she was at Brownies, they had to learn their address inc post code etc as they were role playing having to call the emergency services. I think she was 7. Now 9 she knows my mob number, dh's mob number, my mum's home number and obv still recalls our address.

DD is in reception. I think she knows what number our house is, but not the road name or phone number. She says you ring 99 for police Smile so not there yet.

littlemiss06 · 15/12/2011 21:31

Its only basic info like just when they know when their birthday is and their address not really phone numbers more the very basics but thank you :)

I work in Y1 and more than half of the children are unsure of when their birthday is unless it is coming up very soon, many don't even know which month, let alone the actual date.

AdditionMultiplication · 15/12/2011 21:35

My six year old knows both his birthday and our address. Year 1.

littlemiss06 · 15/12/2011 21:37

Thanks hulababy that helps a lot, i was sat talking with my little girl nearly 6 whos in yr 1 and asked when her birthday is, she gave me a date and I corrected her and told her the date, a few seconds later I asked her again and she again made up another date, I corrected her again and we carried on chatting out of curiousity I asked her again and again she told me a different date, no matter how many times i corrected her she just didnt take in what i was saying and it just worried me a bit as her teacher has mentioned he poor memory skills, shes below level 1 at national curriculum in all areas of her work and it just made me wonder tonight after that chat was she having trouble processing what was being said

DD3 is 4 (reception) and she knows her birthday and her full address including postcode. No phone numbers yet though.

IwishIwasmoresparkly · 15/12/2011 21:39

ds1 was nearly 5 I think before he remembered his birthday and our address, but ds2 is 3.7 and knows both already (and has done for a few months).

notcitrus · 15/12/2011 22:11

I've tried training ds over the last year to be able to recite his name and address, after he scared me by running away in a crowded museum. At 3.3yo he will say 1,x, xteen! My Street, in Town, in London... on a good day. He will spontaneously come out with it when on our street, so I'm trying to get the gps and others to test him.

He might be able to say his birthday is after summer and before Mummy's birthday but he certainly has no idea as we've never told him the exact date (so we can celebrate on a nearby convenient day!) But then MrNC can't remember my birthday after 17 years, which is entertaining when he has to make medical phone calls for me!

Tgger · 15/12/2011 22:48

Yeah, DS (just 5) knows his birthday is October, don't know if he'd get the date, probably not. He used to be able to say his address, but we haven't "done" it for a while so prob not, but he knows the town and the name of our house. He also says "please swipe your club card" (sorry not related, but quite funny Grin) and "please turn off your mobile phones" (when doing a show for us).

Tgger · 15/12/2011 22:50

Oh yes, DD who is just 3 will tell you her birthday is in "Nodember", but she doesn't really know what that means so I don't really count it.... she also knows she lives in the town we live in, but her pronounciation is rubbish so noone could recognize it Smile.

SLVC · 18/12/2011 09:37

My daughter has known her birthday and address since she was about 2.5, but my niece at 6 doesn't know her address. I think the realms of what is normal are very broad. And it also depends when you started teaching them I guess!

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 18/12/2011 09:41

dd1 has known her address from before she was three
but she's nearly five, and has only just got the idea that her birthday has a date as well as being in a particular month. I'm still not sure she'd get the actual date right 100 percent of the time.

yawningmonster · 18/12/2011 10:53

ds is 7 he knows what month his birthday is but is fairly consistently wrong on the date. He knows his full name, address and home phone number.

camdancer · 18/12/2011 13:51

DS (4.5) knows both his birthday and address. It isn't great when he invites random people on the bus to our house for his birthday! Sometimes knowing the information isn't as useful as knowing when (or when not) to use it.
