Crawling and walking

How old was your little one when they first crawled? (or did they skip it?) and how old were they when they first started walking holding onto things and then by themselves?

Dd1 crawled at 8 months and also then stood up holding on within a few weeks. Dd2 is 5 months and no crawling yet...

TheLaineyWayIsEssex · 15/12/2011 17:29

Ds crawled properly at 10.5mo, but was doing varying methods of shuffling, commando crawling for approx 8 weeks before that.
He started pulling up within a week of crawling and cruising round furniture a couple of weeks after that.
He is now 12.5 mo and getting stronger on his legs every day but not able to stand without holding on yet.

Iggly · 15/12/2011 17:58

Commando crawled 7 months, proper crawling at 8 months plus pulling up. Cruising 8/9 months, walking 10 months. He did sit up around 4.5-5 months and was lifting his head up off the floor during tummy time from birth so quite strong.

kickingking · 15/12/2011 18:01

Crawled at almost nine months, and walked at almost fifteen months.

The eight months of crawling were loooong! And Confused at the people who told me they only crawl for a few weeks before walking.

kickingking · 15/12/2011 18:02

Sorry didn't read OP properly - was walking holding on to things at about 11 months.

wheredidiputit · 15/12/2011 18:25

dd1 Walked at 9mths, she just got up and took a few steps, then she didn't realy stop. But she didn't realy crawl until she was about 18mths.

LittleMilla · 15/12/2011 19:02

DS started doing weird commando crawling at 6 months. Now 7.5 months and started crawling properly on knees this week. Been pulling himself up for about a month, will cruise once up.

Doesn't roll though Hmm

howlongwilltheynap · 15/12/2011 20:37

Is there a particular reason why you are asking?

DS1 crawled at 8m, started crusing the same time, started walking at 9m (when I put him down and told him to come to me) but didn't see walking as a valid form of transport until 10m.

It makes absolutely no difference by the way that he walked early, the later walkers were 'steady' much more quickly. In fact now at 2.2y he is the only one who can't jump!

mejon · 15/12/2011 20:46

DD2 started commando crawling at 5.5 months then did 'proper crawling' at 8m when she started cruising too. Now at 10 months she can stand unaided for a few moments and has taken one or two tentative tiny steps (but I don't think she's aware that she's doing it!). DD1 is 5.4 and I can't for the life of me remember when she did any of it but do recall she was cruising on her 1st birthday.

DialMforMummy · 15/12/2011 20:49

Mine starting crawling at about 11 months, it felt quite late compared to friend's babies. He quickly then followed on walking pushing his walker.
Now at 14 mo and a bit, he is cruising holding on to furniture.

WorrisomeHeart · 15/12/2011 20:58

DS first commando crawled at 5.5months, then a couple of weeks later got crawling on his knees. He started pulling up around 8months and was walking at 9.5 months. Now 14 months and he's trying to climb bookshelves... Hmm

gobblygook · 15/12/2011 21:05

My DS has been crawling since 10.5 months. He's now just over 12 months. Still no real pulling up - only onto his knees. He doesn't cruise at all. Stands still on locked legs.

It worries me. Should it? I feel like he should have progressed more, but that makes me sound like a nightmare mum

BarbarianMum · 15/12/2011 21:14

Ds1 never crawled, started pulling up and cruising at 10 mo and took his first steps at 12mo.

Ds2 crawled at 8mo, started pulling up and cruising at 8/9 mo and took his first steps at 10 mo.

gobblygook I'd give him a couple more months before you start worrying personally.

Timeoutofmind · 15/12/2011 21:16

My DD crawled at 9.5 months, she is now 11 months and does not pull up, except on to her knees, doesn't cruise and stands still on locked legs. Like gobblygook I also worry that she's not doing as much as other babies!

gobblygook · 15/12/2011 21:20

You know, it's not that I worry he does as much as other babies Timeoutofyourmind - I just worry that there's some reason why he's not doing it, if that makes sense.

Maybe he's just a bit slower.

capecath · 15/12/2011 21:27

DS commando crawled at 8 months, crawled properly and started pulling himself up same day! at 10 months. Took first steps at 13 months. He was climbing all over the place and could stand up, bend over, and pick things up off the floor unaided before he could walk!
(by the way, I only walked at 17 months and I am perfectly ok :)

Timeoutofmind · 15/12/2011 21:27

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. I'm not competitive but I worry that there's something wrong. HV has advised me to take her to the GP for her hips checking to put my mind at rest.

I'm sure they will just do it in their own time!

capecath · 15/12/2011 21:28

Oh and he never really did much cruising - just pulling himself up and then climbing the object! He would rather go back down again and crawl than cruise.

heroinahalfshell · 15/12/2011 21:31

DS crawled at 7m, cruised at 8m and walked properly at 9m.

Reenypip · 15/12/2011 21:37

Just wondering really...he has always been strong since birth lifting his head up, and sitting on own at 5 months. He is nearly 8 months, and can move himself around in circles (which has been doing since 5 months)

naturalbaby · 15/12/2011 21:48

ds1 - crawled with a lot of persuasion at 10.5 months. walked at 14months
ds2 - dragged himself across the floor at 7months. walked at 14 months
ds3 - crawled at 6.5 months (very strong), currently cruising and climbing stairs all day at 10.5months.

hazeyjane · 15/12/2011 21:54

dd1 crawled about 9 months, walked at 16 months

dd2 never crawled (bum shuffler), walked at 21 months

ds doesn't crawl (he is 17 months), has just started edging along tables and taking wobbly steps behind a walker (but he has developmental delay and problems with his muscles)

littlemiss06 · 15/12/2011 21:59

1st born...crawled at 9 months pulled to standing at 10 months walked at 12.5
2nd born...crawled at 10 months pulled to standing at 11 months walked at 13 months
3rd born...crawled at 8 months and was walking by 10.5 months
4th child...crawled at 12 months, pulled to standing at 13 months and walked at 14 months

QED · 15/12/2011 22:01

Ds crawled at 8.5 months or possibly 8 months. Cruised at 9 months. Walked at 15 months (was a demon crawler and preferred that).

DD did a weird bottom shuffle/crawl thing at about 10.5 months. Never really cruised much. Started standing on her own at about 14 months. Walked at 15 months.

CocktailQueen · 15/12/2011 22:05

both dc - crawled at about 8 months, walked at 12 months
