What age did you change the cot-bed from cot to bed?

And are there any particular signs I should look for that will suggest DD (16months) is ready?

Thanks!

DD was almost 2.... maybe about 20 months?
Signs - that she started trying to climb in/out and would have probably been able to if left to it.

As above - looking like he was about to get the hang of climbing out. In DSs case that was 15 months, but that's quite early.

I wouldn't rush to do it if it's not starting to look like she's going to come to harm by getting over the top - as they get older its easier to explain about staying in her room etc.

when they climb out. DS1 started this at about 15 months so we moved him. the thud of them coming crashing down on the floor just the once is enough to change it into a bed (we had a bed guard of course) Surprisingly it didnt cause too many issues although we did put a gate across the door just in case.

DS2 turned 2 last month, and despite climbing every possible piece of furniture downstairs, he doesnt show any signs of wanting to climb his cot-bed, so we're leaveing him in it until he does.

Just after 3rd birthday, when we did it for dn (3.4) and ds wanted to copy.
In retrospect should have done it a bit earlier as they were getting heavy and it's much easier reading a story without bars in the way. And now ds gets up to use the potty in the night, too.

He never tried climbing out, though, but did try climbing in a few times, so we figured keeping him in the cot was a good idea. Luckily he can't open the handle of his bedroom by himself yet so if he acts up then we can shut the door.

we have just changed for dd just turned 2. She never climbed, but her cot mattress was starting to sag so into the toddler bed she went. We have a few tears at bedtime which I think is down to to the change but otherwise she loves her big girl bed.

How many threads do we need on this. I've just been reading an identical one with over 40 posts on it!

Just saying...

It's in "parenting" btw

2.5 is when I did my daughter

BsshBossh · 16/12/2011 10:30

When my DD was 3.5 Blush. She's a petite little thing so fit the cot really well and had never attempted to climb out and slept beautifully so we didn't bother to "rock the boat". We moved her into a toddler bed at 3.5 and she's had no issues at all - still sleeps well and still hasn't bothered to climb out of bed by herself - she still calls for us in the morning.

From cot to actual bed at 11 months....mainly because she could climb and cot bed was falling apart so we just put dd in a low single bed.

DeWe · 16/12/2011 12:09

Dd1 about 22 months when the bottom fell out of the cot. (she stayed asleep and we found her on the floor Shock)
Dd2 about 2 years, when we got a high bed for dd1 so dd2 got the toddler bed.
Ds about 10 months when he was consistantly climbing out every night rather than just most nights Grin

VFVF · 18/12/2011 18:44

DD was about 18 months. We did it because I slipped my disc and couldn't lift her over the bars. She was fine, never fell out Smile

Sirzy · 18/12/2011 18:49

Ds was 21 months. Decided on holiday he didn't like the travel cot (who can blame him!) so he slept in the spare single we had, after a week in a bed with no problems didn't see the point of changing things so stuck with the bed!
