Spitting 29month old......

My gorgeous gorgeous DS has the normal toddler tantrums but over the past couple of months they have been escalating into such bursts of fury I've been taken aback by him and his strength. He is tall and strong for his age, although his speech is very slow to come on (not sure if you need that info but....), so I'm sure some of it is frustration, although he communicates in his own way and through various signs.

However, getting back to the problem; if I tell him off or go through the naughty step system he lashes out with kicking, punching, pinching till he breaks skin. Now, he has started spitting when he hears something he doesn't like or he is being told No. Literally spitting like a teenage boy. I look at him sometimes and I just dont recognise him. He doesnt attend nursery but we do various classes and mix with other children....I used to have to watch him like a hawk with other children but he has been so much better outside the home, I'm always being told how lovely he is, and how other parents wish their children would share like him....There is 2 sides to him and although I've read the books, seeked advice from friends and all the usual all im getting "its a phase"....my boy is spitting in my face and i want him to stop............as soon as he starts, I put him straight on the naughty step, and although he stays put it hasn't stopped the spitting. I've got a reward chart to start tomorrow......any other ideas would be so appreciated

and no, nothing upsetting or unsettling going on, just a normal busy family :-)
