Hi my 5 months old LO can sit unaided but can't roll, he turns to the side like he's going to but never quite gets over and then gives up.

If he's on mine or DH's stomach for tummy time he will roll, but I think that's more to get off as he doesn't like it and seems to get a sore neck and just lies his head down.

He also wants to stand quite alot so is always pushing himself to do new things but is it strange that he can't roll but can sit?

Normal, I'd say. DD sat unaided from a young age (5mo, I think), but didn't roll until much later - and then only on occasion. She's now 10mo and will roll to get stuff, and is just starting to commando crawl. Otherwise she's happy sitting!!

DD sat unaided at 4.5 months. She couldn't roll from back to front until after she was walking at nine months. She rolled front to back from seven months but only one way.

DS is 9 months and has only rolled a couple of times. He was sitting up at 5 months too and has been crawling for a couple of months, he also looks very close to taking his first steps! I think he'll be walking before rolling!

I don't think any of my three ever did any rolling - not that I noticed anyway, certainly with DD1 I remember thinking it was strange as all my antenatal group's babies were flipping over back and forth. They walked at 12, 10 and 11 months respectively though so by then rolling was the last thing on my mind! Even learning to crawl did not seem to involve any rolling.

Looks like it's not a problem then, interesting though that most of the babies who sat unaided early also walked early. Apparently my DH walked at 8 months and didn't crawl so DS may be the same.

Normal IME too.

I wouldn't correlate the walking with sitting early. DS was good at sitting but didn't walk until 16MO.

DD was like this, sat bolt upright very early, didn't roll, walked very late. However once she started walking she developed completely normally and has an amazingly musculature (she is now 8).
