Just nosey really...at what age did your child manage to point to the right body part (nose, ears, head, mouth, tummy, feet etc) when you said them?

DS knew his head at about 15 months, and has gradually progressed from there. now at 20 months he knows all the obvious ones, and occasionally astounds me by knowing weird stuff like his elbow.

I can't remember exactly but I know I helped out at a training event for social workers by lending dd to them. She was 9 months and they were doing support visit training type stuff and showing activities to do. One of them was 'can you point to' and she could. Just basic nose, toes stuff. No idea how long before that she was doing it.

My DD Is 13 months and can do toes and feet, head and nose sometimes, and nothing else yet.

Kiwiinkits · 23/11/2011 22:46

About 13 - 14 months

breatheslowly · 25/11/2011 22:07

DD is 14 months and can only do head. We have been working on other bits as has her nursery, but with no obvious success.

My DS is 16 months and I've been trying to teach him to do this, but with no success so far - he just looks at me blankly! Never mind, he does lots of other clever stuff instead.

oldmum42 · 26/11/2011 15:03

DS4 just turned 13 months, can do nose, mouth, tongue, chin, hair, eyes, foot. Sometimes does ear and hand and tummy. I think nose was the first one, at around 10months.

We do a little pointing game for a couple of mins everyday - they more often they hear the words and see you pointing, the more opportunity they have to realise what it is you are droning on about! :)

DS was about 10mths or so, not walking anyhow and he did that around 11mths. Ive always found he catches on really quickly to something that he is interested in, like shapes he knew all the basic ones at 17mths within a week of me pointing to them on a chart during nappy change time, but other things he's not bothered with - he (3.5yrs) still likes me to help feed him his dinner if he's tired Blush and is only just able to remember words / actions to songs.

gitinora · 26/11/2011 20:42

My ds 10 months can point to head, nose and toes. We sing head, shoulders, knees and toes alot. Grin

matana · 27/11/2011 10:00

DS doesn't point but knows his mouth, probably because he's a good eater! If he's playing with his food i say "put it in your mouth" and he does. He's 1 yo.

Jacksterbear · 28/11/2011 11:31

DD is 14 months and just starting to do this.

Vizzini · 28/11/2011 11:51

9 months. She has got a great memory, though, and remembers things after being told once - this is not inherited from me!

Mahogany21 · 02/05/2017 23:49

MessyBun247 · 03/05/2017 07:41

DD Started pointing at my eyes/nose/mouth/ears around 15months, has only just started pointing her own now she is 18months and has only recently started pointing to herself when I say her name.
