20 week DD not interested in toys

My 20 week is just not interested in toys. She will half heartedly grap an object if left under the baby gym long enough, but that's it. She's much more interested in human interaction.

My DM says I am stunting her development by holding her too much.

Is it really a problem that she doesn't do rattles etc?

I think it is a fundamental personality thing.

My 5 year old DS was never bothered. And has stayed that way right up to finding computer games...

DD1 started to play with toys at about 2 years old.

DD2 is the only one of mine who has/had the remotest interest in toys as a baby.

Hahahahahaha at stunting development by holding. No.

Well she won't be able to properly grab properly yet anyway, just take swipes at things. I wouldn't worry - we found DS never liked the baby gym much but did give him loads of times on the floor so he built up his muscle strength. You could put her on a blanket on her front with a mirror or book to look at? And let her hold stuff while on your lap?

GrannysLittlePickle · 23/11/2011 09:25

If I dangle stuff in front of her while she's on my lap she just gives me a look! Not interested. She wants to be out and about on walks in the sling, and loves hearing people chat....

Honestly, I think it's fine. I mean, people are more interesting than stuff, aren't they? I think your DD is very sensible. Human interaction first, toys next...

GrannysLittlePickle · 23/11/2011 09:33

Thank you - that's what I thought - but when someone plants that little seed of doubt......

My 23 DD is exactly the same. I agree with nightlark, think she's just more interested in people than stuff. I reckon she'll learn more from real people than plastic toys anyhow so not worried!

TeWihara · 23/11/2011 09:59

My DD was exactly the same. She just wasn't very interested, she did get on with grabbing things eventually but took months and months to actively play with anything. She is totally fine and a completely normal toddler, she just prefered people to toys when she was a baby.

Justfeckingdoit · 23/11/2011 10:06

Mine was the same until she was about 5 months. Now has a toy attached at all times! (6 months)

Would not worry at all

Iggly · 23/11/2011 10:30

Oh I didn't mean dangle in her face - just let her try and grab things from your hand if she wants :)

GrannysLittlePickle · 23/11/2011 18:58

thanks :)
