Getting 11month to sleep

NaughtyBusterAndTheBumFactory · 22/11/2011 09:49

My 11 month old currently sleeps 7pm - 7am. All good. But I get him to sleep by giving him a bottle, on my knee on the sofa, then a dummy which he sucks until asleep. I then carry him up and put him in his cot. Same for 2 naps a day (generally 1hr 1/2 each)
but he tends to sleep on me for these.

Have never done cc etc, and have enjoyed this way of parenting ie, cuddling to sleep, demand feeding etc

But am starting to wonder (and I hate this phrase) if I'm 'making a rod for my own back.

Should a) I be weaning him off dummies, which I read I should be at this stage

b) putting him in his cot and letting himself get off to sleep

c) carry on as I am and it will work itself out in time?

Any tips, recommendations, experience appreciated

I'd agree with c if its what your happy with (she says having just fed and cuddled 8 month old Ds to sleep)! Until recently he also used to always sleep on me during the day but now goes in his cot happily. The only downside to that is that it can no longer be an excuse for not doing the housework!

sounds perfect to me - you get the joy of cuddling your DC while they drift off, and you get a good night's sleep! I am jealous! I do the same as you, but my DS wakes multiple times. Carry on, I say

If it works for you carry on - only worry about changing things once it stops working!

Sounds great to me. I don't know about the dummy as I didn't use one but I am jealous of your 7-7!

Thank you all so much! I've been totally over thinking it and so I appreciate your responses. Cuddles it is :)

Hey, agree with above. Beat myself up about how I got my daughter to sleep - same as you. Bottle then cuddle, falls asleep on me and I put her in her cot. Tried CC - which just wasn't for us/her. So back to our routine and everyone is happy. I say go with what works for you!

Sounds perfect. I wish my baby slept 12 hours straight!

That's good to know! I much prefer it but was worried everyone else's baby just went to sleep in their cot! Thanks for replying.
