He was 7 weeks prem so not really 5 months in terms in milestones, although he does roll over. He doesn't reach out for things, I have links and he holds them and occasionally touches toys but I would like to help him along the way . Any ideas?by the way he chews his hands all the time so he knows they are there .

sing various songs to him using hand movements eg. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and play 'Round and Round the Garden Like a Teddy Bear' on his hands (bit like at the start of In The Night Garden).

Ooh thanks, I'll check out the night garden .

'this little piggie went to market' is a good nursery rhyme to play with his toes (they are so sweet at that age!)

Thanks, I'll try it. He loves nursery rhymes and recognises them when we go to little clubs , poor boy had such a crappy start in scbu for a month that he is bound to be a bit behind but i think it will help him to play if he can reach out at his toys .

It will come, don't worry! Anything that makes a noise when he moves it will be good too. Beanie babies, empty plastic bottles with dried peas in them, that kind of thing.

Good ideas, thanks octavia.. I'm trying very hard not to worry , he seems ok in every other way so I'm sure it will come . I just want to help him along a bit. I'll try the peas.

Rolling over at 5 months is very good, especially considering he was so premature.

bishboschone · 20/11/2011 13:30

Yeah , he is a strong boy , his legs and core are very strong, just his hands need to catch up . He has gone from very very poorly 3 pound to a big 13 pounder so fingers crossed they will join in soon. :)
