Toddle trucks and wheelybugs - which one, what age?

DS is just about to turn 9ms. I've got the IKEA toddle truck in storage for him as a Christmas present, but all the toddle trucks are recommended for 12m+. Is there a particular reason why they're not simply for babies who are starting to walk? My DS is crawling and has started pulling himself up to standing, and there's very little for him in his toybox that he likes other than ELC cars and a noisy phone. He's not interested in stacking cups or anything intellectual like that. Would it be too early for him to be using the toddle truck once he's steadier on his feet, which may well be before Christmas?

The next question is aimed at people with wheelybugs. DS is tall (on the 91st centile). Assuming he gets a wheelybug for his 1st birthday in 3 months' time, should we go for the small or the large one? His feet just about reach the ground on the large one, and the small one seems as if he'd grow out of it very quickly, though it's recommended up till 2.5 years. It seems a bit silly to buy one he'll grow out of quickly as they're really expensive, even if he has to wait a while before he can use it IMO, but I'd be interested in what other people think/wish they'd done...

There should really be a "topic" for trivial questions about Christmas presents, I know. Grin

We bought a small wheelybug for DD, maybe 1st birthday. She (2.11) still rides it. So does DS1 who is 5.5. He is about 50th centile for height so not a diddy 5 yr old. So I'd go for the little one he can use right away

There is a Christmas topic area in fun and games. I spend too much time on it
