16 month old suddenly waking for 2hrs+ in the night

Hi all,

My 16 month DS has always been an OK sleeper with the odd blip here and there but the last 10 days has been a nightmare.

He has been waking in the night anywhere between 12 and 3 and will then not go back to sleep for hours. He doesn't cry but talks and rocks in his cot for hours and then sometimes starts screaming towards the end when he is really tired and frustrated. I know he is trying to get back to sleep as he is rocking and he rocks when he is tired or trying to sleep. I normally ignore him until he starts crying and then I go to him and try to settle him. I have tried settling him when he is just talking but he gets excited that I am there and starts trying to get out of the cot.

I'm wondering if he could be waking due to teething? I didn't think it was teething at first as he wasn't waking up distressed but last night the only thing that settled him was nurofen for children which has now got me thinking what if he is waking due to discomfort.

I just wanted to ask some other people what they thought as I don't want to keep giving him drugs if they are not needed.

Now that I remember the only night he has actually gone through the night this week was the one where i'd given him nurofen in the bath before bed.

If its not teething does anyone have any others suggestions?

Thank you

Hi Holly, have you tried giving him some supper in the bath? Weetabix or something like that, has a stopped having some milk somewhere that could be making him hungry? Alternatively if its teeth the poor little mite could be in for a rough ride before he cuts it. Good luck.
