Am at wits end this morning after 5 hrs of hyper behaviour from my beloved ds. All he wants to do is fight, leap around, shout, starts throwing things about the minute he doesn't get his way, or if he can't do something - tried to fix some toy around his wrist, it kept falling off, and suddenly he was yelling, and punching at it over and over and over again. Like some seriously stressed out guy in a movie. Would be funny were it not real. And I wonder sometimes if he's deaf - ask him a question, get no response at all. Stand right behind him and say something silly just to check - and usually turns out he can hear perfectly well. Reading about ADHD, now petrified that for whatever reason, my own son is ADHD. Much of the time he's actually not that bad, but the last few days have been hell. A friend was round this morning, and I could see she was getting pretty concerned about his behaviour. HELP!!!

What is he like at school?

Could he be overtired? Do you have boundaries in place around this kind of behaviour?

Most 5 year olds have selective hearing in my experience Grin. I recommend getting down to his level, holding his hand and eye contact...

At school he is lovely, works very hard, very attentive - but he is seriously struggling with the reading and writing, despite having been an early talker, very articulate, very physical. Boundaries - we try them all. This morning he broke a toy, refused to have his antibiotics ( yes he is tired, sick last week for 4 days), shrieked at me like a banshee when I washed his hair..... This is not my son. I don't know what's going on.

Check the antibiotics for side effects if it's only been while on the medicine. They may list hyperactivity as one of them. Ds gets hyperactive off a couple of antibiotics.
