Ugh.

He's 5 and in primary 1 (Scottish system)

He punched 2 other kids. 1 was in retaliation and he says the other was a mistake. He knows it was wrong and sat and sobbed when we told him off again.

Oh, please, tell me this has happened to your wee one too?!

They hand out detentions at 5 years old at his school?! Yes, what he did was wrong but it sounds like he's had a good shock and he's not likely to do it again. The best thign for you to do now would be to say 'chin up and carry on,' when he gets home and not mention the incident again. Don't be all "oh, poor DS! Mummy's little darling! The mean old schoolie!" because that negates the shock, but there's no need to tell him off or for him to be in disgrace after this :)

Thanks, AKMD.

Yep, he's fine now and we've put it behind us.

It was 15mins at lunch time. Apparently he wasn't at all bothered at school about it!

Parents' night last night and he is doing very well apart from that one incident, so I am happy enough Smile

Oh, and I would always back the school and their discipline decisions. I am in it a lot and they are strict but also very loving and kind to the kids. It is tiny and very homely and he is in a class of only 8!
