He was 8lb3oz when he was born - big but not huge.
He's exclusively bf, but gaining just under 1lb a week. I spoke to the health visitor who said they don't worry about breastfed babies weight but all he does is feed! Someone reassure me he'll slow down...

As far as I know bf babies don't overfeed, so don't worry about that.

Also, the size thing really is a huge range and the clothes are just an average. DS is 13 months and I've just put away some of his 6-9month stuff. He'll have a while yet in 9-12.

Someone has to be at the top and someone has to be at the bottom :)

it will also depend what clothes you use as some ranges are bigger sized than others.

Where is he on the charts? As Imp says, someone has to be 100%! My DD aged 2 is off the charts for height and therefore weight.

If he continues to gain that much weight take him to the docs, as it could be something that's worth getting checked. I wouldn't bother with HVs (no offence to any on here) as the only thing I've ever heard from an HV is that 'it's normal'. Wink

My ds was like this for the first 6 months. Just seemed to get bigger and bigger. By 6 months he was comfortably in 9-12. But then he basically slowed right down. He's gone from the 95th to the 50th, not in a worrying way, just settling down into his own size. So don't panic!

Another one telling you not to worry! I remember being in your position, and DS is about to hit 9 months - we're starting him on 12 - 18 month clothes now.

As a previous poster said, someone has to be at the top and someone has to be at the bottom of the scale!

Re gaining weight so much and so quickly, if your HV is ok with it just wait to see if it levels off - they do slow down. DS was 23lbs by 6 months. At 8 months he was just over 24 - and was born 7lbs8. If he's still gaining so fast at 8/9 months then maybe it's unusual but til then, enjoy!
