2 year old inconsolable on waking for unidentifiable reasons.

This is a new thing, on waking from naps and in the morning DS2 is tearful and inconsolable for at least five minutes - eyes open, sobbing quietly, although laughing if the cat jumps up on the bed or pushing drink away, then returning to the tears. I'd say it was a variety of night terror (my eldest has these on occasion) but its softer and quieter and he's seemingly conscious although a little spacey.

Its been going on for a few days and it seems to pass. Its been coupled with upset sleep at night, waking and refusing to settle without holding or someone being in the room (not like him).

Its just "out of character" as far as anything is at this age and I am puzzled as to the cause - I'm curious to know if anyone had similar or have any ideas? Just bad dreams maybe?

I would say he has woken prematurely and is still a little tired.
Any chance of trying to get him to go back to sleep for another 20mins or so rather then getting him out of bed.

Mine wakes up in a vile mood quite often. Sometimes helps if he has a drink of milk and a biscuit, just have to wait for him to pick up again.

To be fair, until I've had my coffee I'm pretty miserable in the mornings myself!

Another rubbish bedtime, I think he may be scared of the dark actually...
