finger sucking

My 3yo dd sucks her index finger at night. I would be happy to let her do it, EXCEPT - it is pushing one of her front teeth out, and the dentist categorically says she has to stop asap, as all her little teeth are getting snaggled up as a result. (Plus she's started to lisp through the growing gap.)

Poor little thing is so attached to it, I can't bear to upset her over it, although I know it's for the best.

Any advice, suggestions, stories, experiences? Anything received with gratitude!

my DS is 2.7 and he has sucked 2 of his fingers since he was a baby. He only does it when he is tired or relaxing and I know it's a comfort thing as he did it in the womb! He sucks them that hard tho that he has hard lumps on his fingers and when he is in bed we can hear him downstairs. We have tried to discourage him as we are worried about his teeth and speech (he has a slight lisp) but this just makes him do it more. Part of me thinks well if it makes him happy and comforts him just let him do it. We are hoping he will grow out of it but I don't think he will. A friend suggested putting that gross nail biting stuff on his fingers but I don't even think that will stop him! No advice I'm afraid but will keep watching in case anyone does have the answer.

My dd sucked her thumb and fingers and at 6 years old it had to stop as was affecting her teeth. So after buying reams of plasters and putting them on daily it stopped after a while never to return

Thanks for the advice both. Truly appreciated. I will try plasters and report if successful!
