How to stop 4yr old biting nails! Any advice?

My DD is 4 on Monday and for about the last month she will not stop biting her nails, they are constantly in her mouth and she even bites her toe nails!

Weve tried using that foul tasting nail varnish and it made her vomit at first but then she kept wiping/washing it off and still bit her nails.
I ask her why she does and she just says she doesnt like them being long but she wont let them grow enough for me to be able to cut them.
Her nails just look awful and sore and im at my wits end so any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I am 30 and have bitten my nails since I was small. We tried everything. But I must confess that even now, I love it. I do when I am nervous or just absent mindedly.

Does she need to stop? Perhaps it's more about making sure she doesn't OVER-bite them. Looking at mine now and they look fine, just short.

Shes bitten them so that some of them are bleeding and it just looks awful which is why i was looking for some way to help her stop, im worried theyll get infected or something :/
