First shoes - high arches

DS (14 months) has been walking independently for 10 weeks, rarely falls and only crawls when he's trying to get under something. He's ready for shoes but we can't find anything that fits. He has a high arch (middle bit of foot), we're abroad so shoe shops only measure length and not width and shoes will not go on. DH had similar feet when small and they flattened out but DS'll need shoes before then!

He's been wearing socks with a base type thing but they're too thin for outdoors now it's getting colder. We got him some sheepskin slipper boots which seem to keep his feet warm and dry whilst walking outside (when cold and damp but not wet) but does anyone have recommendations for proper waterproof shoes for winter? We're in the UK in December so should I wait and take him to clarks/independant or is there anywhere online?

www.sizetrackerblog.com/how-to-measure-kids-feet-for-shoe-size-chart/

followed by ebay so that it won't be too much of a disaster in the mean time?

Wellies till then?

we have this problem and clarks and startrite dont fit, we get ricosta, or geox or ecco shoes for our boys, expensive but they last and are well made.

my daughter has really high arches (my fault) and getting her feet into shoes was a real problem -she now wears scoop fronted shoes but not much halp with boys (sorry)

when she was little I found Elefanten shoes were the best for her -hard to get hold of in the uk now but I know you can get them in Germany and America -not sure where you are?

Netherlands so not far from Germany and I was thinking of going over for that traditional german christmas market experience anyway! I'll have a google and see where they are stocked. Thanks, so depressing watching numerous sales assistants try and wiggle lots of shoes on only to find that none of them will fit.
