Low frenulum???

Hi

My 12 months old daughter just got her two front teeth and there is a gap between them. I looked closely into her mouth and saw what I thought might be low frenulum (got the name off the internet). Has anyone, come across this?? I'm taking her to a specialist next Saturday but just wanted to see whether any of you have had any experience with this?... Till now, have never heard of it before. I wish I had though at breastfeeding was bloody painful (which can be caused by it) and I managed for 7 months not knowing that this could have been a problem.

Many thanks,

Hi...my dd1 (nearly 8) has this, a thicker muscle like attachment between gum and upper lip, and also 2 teeth between main front teeth and incisors missing. Been to the dentist, she will have it snipped at some stage in a couple of years. Has caused no problems, she bf til a year. Some help with "s" pronunciation at school, that was to do with missing teeth not frenulum though. Doesn't bother her at all, but gap between 2 front teeth caused people to constantly ask if she had already lost a tooth...Incidentally, none of other 3 dc have it.

I had mine 'snipped' when I was about 9 or so. I used to have a very large gap between my front teeth (bigger than a pound coin) but now have none.

It's much more comfortable to grin/bare my teeth now too.

Hi my ds has this too, think it is also called lip tie, which he had alongside tongue tie. Only discovered the lip thing recently and helped realise why despite tt snop, breastfeeding was agony and I only managed 3 weeks. He has a significant but cute gap between front teeth ( as do his grandad and). Dp also had this but a brace eliminated the gap. No speech problems.
