Fear of the toilet after constipation!

This is my comeuppance for any pain i have evr caused on potty-training threads.....

DD (2.8y) has been trained day and night for over a year and I've never had to deal with poos in the pants, until today! She has been constipated for the past 4 days, but the syrup of figs finally overcame her determined buttock clenching this am. However, as the medicine continues to do its stuff she has pooed in her pants twice. She knows she needs a poo but goes bright red and is still trying to "hold it". Result ends up in knickers. When I've taken her to the bathroom to clean her up she goes mad shouting "i don't need the toilet, I don't like it" and is generally a sobbing wreck. Wees are done in the loo without a fuss.

So, how do I get her back on the loo? She goes back to nursery on monday after half-term and i'm worrying already....

Hi Marialuisa, sorry to hear about your dd, poor thing Unfortunately I can't help as my ds is only 4months - I have all this to come! I can't think of anything really, other than perhaps ask if she feels the need to poop once she's on the loo doing a wee? Is she reassured knowing that this will pass and pooping will become easier again?

Sorry I can't be of any help.

Hi

Sorry to hear about your dd. I had a similar problem a couple of months ago with my dd (2.5y) and I know how upsetting it is for both of you. We solved it by going right back to the beginning - out with the potty and a reward system for every poo (although the stickers didn't work this time and we had to resort to lollipops!). Took a few days but everything back to normal now. Hope it sorts itself out soon.

It seems I was panicking unnecessarily. Now her poo is back to normal she's using the loo quite happily! The syrup of figs must have done weird things to her.
