14 week old -crying in buggy

I have a 14 wo who has discovered crying in her buggy gets her carried.
Three times she has done it while with my mum and me - resulting in her being carried home by me, and my mum pushing the pram.

Today, i went to a baby group and she was grumpy and tired from half way through (she hadn't had a nap, and the walk there wasnt enough to get her to sleep). When we left I put her in her buggy and she cried. So lifted her out, still crying - put her on my hip, facing out and she was fine. This happened about four times, when i was finally near home I let her cry. When we got in she was asleep (after a short breastfeed) in less than five mins.

What would you do? Has she worked out crying gets her out, or do you think its uncomfortable?!

I think she might be comforted by being held. If you get on with a sling that might work. I didn't but I was using a dummy at that age and that also might help. I seem to recall DD was a bit like that early on but largely grew out of it.

At 14 weeks I wouldn't say she has "worked anything out" - she just cries because she is unhappy, and is happy when you carry her.

Babies aren't very complex! They just cry when they don't like something until you make it better.

If she's crying because she's tired but having a difficult time dropping off in the buggy, it's worth investing in a snoozeshade - its basically a blackout cover which velcros around pushchairs. My DD stopped napping in her pushchair at around 4 months. I then discovered this and DD will now sleep if we're out and about

DS started doing that at about the same age.Does your daughter face inwards or outwards in the buggy? I found that when I moved DS from pushchair mode to pram mode, he was much happier. I decided it was because he'd become old enough to want to see what was going on around him, instead of just watching me all the time.

Carry her in a sling - she wants to be near you. She hasn't 'worked out' that crying gets her carried - she needs to be carried to be happy. Do what she needs - lots of physical contact and carrying at this age improves brain development, sleeping and later independence so it's worth the investment! Fourteen weeks is still tiny.

From about 12 weeks, DS (now 7.5 months) started to cry in his pram. He just grew out of it, he generally likes his buggy now, but still cries when he is tired. He was parent facing to start with, but when I moved him to a forward facing buggy he was so much happier and more settled. I'm not saying this works for everyone, and I would have loved to have him facing me for longer, but it clearly helped in our case.

I agree that your DD is too young to work out that someone will carry her when she cries, they can't form associations so young. It's frustrating, I remember it well, but it will pass.

Thanks Everyone- I have both a babsling which i am still to work out and a carrier so will crack this out. I worry she will get cold in the carrier but if i put her in a pran suit and put a hat on she should be warm enough.

I think some of them don't like not being able to see your face while they're being pushed. My daughter was like that as a baby. My son was quite happy to watch the world go by, but my daughter need human contact.
