Hi, i would be grateful for any ideas. Have a ds 3yrs old and while sleeping he has a security blanket, which is fine with me. But the problem is, he stuffs it in his mouth and keeps it there most of the night. I need to know if this is normal, dangerous and how to stop it if poss. I think it makes him cough and does make him and room smell every morning. Obviously im worried he may choke stop breathing etc,so pls if you have any ideas, i would be grateful. He has been doing it for 2 yrs since he left his dummy.

At 3 (and at any age???) his 'gag reflex' would kick in, if he stuffs it too far into his mouth at night, so I wouldn't worry about choking etc.

dd did this with her teddy comforter and gradually it disintegrated and split off into strips. Smelt rank too, so had to keep washing it. She never actually stuffed it in too far whilst asleep but did get one of the strips stuck up her nose, necessitating a trip to A and E. Now she is a bit older and I have replaced the disintegrated sections, we have "agreed" not to suck him anymore. She was a thumbsucker too which she only stopped recently (now 4).

My DD is 7 yo and still has her 'blankie' at bedtime. She goes through phases of sucking it, so it just gets washed more frequently then. Can't see that she's even close to being able to sleep at night without it

ds3 sucks his "smelliephant" when he hasn't got a dummy to hand. Stinks to high heaven so I have to pinch it when he's not looking and do a quick wash and tumble dry.

I don't think they would choke on it really so try not to worry too much about that. ds1 is 12 btw and still has his blue teddy on his bed AND takes it away with him if he goes overnight anywhere!! Big softy!
