Aggressive 9 year old driving me demented

My DS is 9 (year 5), and is still having major temper tantrums, getting aggressive & hitting/kicking/scratching anyone within reach.
We did link it to computer games (posted here a few months ago), but it can happen for any reason.
I dragged him every step of the way to school this morning (did let go of his wrist long enough for him to put his shoes on at the end of the drive!). I'm not even sure what caused the explosion this time, but he was asked to stop reading & get ready for school, and that seemed to be enough.
Our current tactic is to ban screen time when he gets like this, but it hasn't really stopped him doing it.
Any suggestions, anyone?

Not sure I can help, but wanted to offer sympathy! I have just posted about the problems we are having with DS - also 9 and year 5 - over homework.

He also just seems to lose control easily, and whilst he knows not to lash out, he really can be very aggressive and unpleasant when things don't go his way, or if he doesn't get his own way.

I wonder if it's an age/hormone thing - DS is certainly getting pre-pubescent (fine, downy hair and whiffy armpits).

What is he like at school? Is there lots more pressure in year 5? We are working towards 11+ and this is definitely affecting DS.

I don't think my DS is getting pre-pubescent yet - he's small for his age, only just starting to lose teeth! Maybe it's the Napoleon complex thing instead...

You could be right about the school pressure thing, though - they expect more of them in upper juniors, and I don't think he likes his new teacher. One of the triggers this time seemed to be his homework - he wasn't quite sure about what to do.

I wouldn't mind the loss of control so much if it didn't mean getting beaten up! And, although I don't hit back (ok, I try very hard not to ), fending him off can lead to him accusing me of hitting him. He has his own view of reality, and will swear that black is white if it suits him!

Ah - homework - well that has been DS's trigger so far this term too... I have just started a new thread here in fact!
