My six year old won't tell me how she feels

My six year old girl won't ever tell me things, how she feels, if anything has happened, even messages from school.
Not sure if she just forgets some things but when she does say some things she finds it really difficult to explain herself.
I know most children at this age don't tell you what they've been doing in school but my child doesn't ever tell me anything..
Should I be worried or is this normal at this age?
I worry that she finds it hard to explain what she wants to say so just doesn't bother....
She is an only child...

Could she draw you how she feels or write it down?

A childs day at school is so busy for them, so we asked for a timetable so we knew what was happening, then you can ask specific questions about, reading, maths, visitors to the class, PE etc. What was fun, what was new, what they did at play, rather than broad, how was your day. using pictures, ie her drawing about her day is another way to get in to the conversation.

My DS can be like this. He is just 7.

'What did you do today?' - 'Can't remember, don't know, nothing...'

I find he is better if I am less direct. Start with 'It's great to see you'..... and just make space for her to talk freely.

Then maybe something about what her favourite thing has been?

There is a great book called 'How to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk' -it's quite American but it has changed the way I interact with my children and also some of my more childish colleagues

my ds is just like this and I have recently started asking questions as a bit of a game and he is slowly starting to open up but it is a bit like pulling teeth at times. I say "who was the happiest today, who was the cleverest, who behaved the best, who was the prettiest, who learned the most, who behaved the best, who was the grumpiest, stroppiest, got in trouble etc etc. It quite often leads the way to him wanting to tell a little anecdote about something that has happened.
