help - DS2 scared of his bed after fall

A week and a half ago my 4year old fell out of his older brother's top bunk. He badly cut his face and had to have plastic surgery under general anaesthetic. He's been coping reasonably well except at bedtimes when he is hysterical with fear (not at all like him!). I just can't get him to go to sleep in his own bed and he says it is because he keeps falling out (he doesn't). Don't really know what to do. I've been letting him go to sleep in my bed because he's been through a trauma; its not like him to play up especially not at bedtime; and I had hoped that things would calm down. They haven't and I don't really know where to go from here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would buy a bed guard - some come with pockets, so maybe he can put his favourite toy in the pocket. That should make him feel safer, also a nightlight if he hasn't already got one.

i agree with the bed guard, and maybe try putting a duvet or something on the floor so that he can be reassured that if he does fall out he will have a soft landing

Put his mattress on the floor for a while?
Get a bed guard.
Put cushions/duvet at the side of his bed?
