DD 1 tomorrow and not shuffling, crawling, walking, zilch

My dd is 1 tomorrow and is not doing anything yet in the way of moving around. She shuffles 360 degrees on the spot but that is about it.

When she wants something she will reach over as if to crawl and then her legs get stuck and she get frustrated.

ALL the babies younger than her at the Toddler group are crawling, some even walking!

Should I be worried or just be patient?

Not sure if it matters but I walked at 9mths...

My dd didn't crawl or bum shuffle. She eventually started walking at 14-15months. I mentioned it to the HV once and they told me not to worry, apparently the average age for walking is 18months.

Ds is now 13 mths and although he started "proper" crawling and cruising at 11 months, 2 months later there's still no sign of walking. I love to tell people not to worry, but it never stops me

My mom didn't walk until 15 months and I walked at 9 months, so there goes the maternal line theory.

I know a girl who crawled first time on her first birthday, walked a few days before 18 months. And several children, boys & girls, who didn't crawl or anything until 16 months when they just stood up and walked. As long as your child can sit well by 1yo, I don't think it's time to worry yet.

I think it's often a reflection of personality. My ds was crawling at 6.5 months. I'm sure it's because he's insatiably curious. He had to crawl to and open every cabinet/door in the house and everywhere we went. And is still (almost 3) obsessed with exploring the new and unknown. My dd started crawling at 8 or 9 months and still (now 13 mo.) hasn't opened any cabinets anywhere. My friend's ds didn't start crawling until 14 mo. and now at 2.5 only opens a cabinet if he knows what's in it and wants to get something specific out.

Average age for walking is about 14 months (earliest around 10 months and latest about 18 months) ... but of course this is just an average and your baby may fall into the later category. Some babies just don't bother with the crawling/shuffling and just go straight to walking so don't worry. Is she pulling herself up?

my ds 13mos has never crawled yet,He too does

the 360degree swivel but is just about to shuffle
I think.He started walking about a week ago so I don't know if he'll ever crawl.I know it's worrying when yours is the only one not doing something but try not to worry ,she'll be the same as all the rest by the time she's two and you'll wonder what all the worry was about.

I think it might have something to do with the weight of the baby too. Both mine were late crawl / walkers, but they were both real chunk-a-babes. One mother (whose boy was walking by 9 mths) told me to be grateful, as it was much easier when they aren't getting into everything.

Hi Oliveoil,

Agree with all that has gone before and then some. I have boy/girl twins and wouldn't you know it - ds crawled from 10 months and dd didn;t bother until she was 16 months - he was just more intent on getting places. dd also did the funny fish out of water waggle with her legs all the time like she could not figure them out. She can now beat her sibling at running......

She actually toddled towards my sister on Saturday, I was holding her hands and she did 3 steps, then cried and sat down! Hurrah.

Has only done it twice since but it's a start.

My mum told me that I didn't walk till I was 16months. I turned out fine, I was a sprinter for the school and was in all the sport's teams at school. Kids do everything at different stages, once she starts crawling/walking and is diving into everything, there will be times when you wish she was still that beautiful tiny non-mobile baby!! I know i did when ds began crawling. Hope she had a lovely birthday by the way.

UPDATE:

I am sure you have all been waiting with bated breath for news

dd is now crawling at the grand age of 13 months 2 weeks and 2 days, the lazy arse little so and so.

Not walking on her own yet, just does John Cleese funny walk style goose steps with someone holding her hands.

OO - I didn't realise you still had a baby, and you're expecting another???? Lunatic!

My ds walked at 14 mths..... then learned to crawl as it was much less hassle! Not THAT is laziness.

I would have had them closer together if I hadn't had a section, was told to wait 2 years. Have disobeyed

glad she is crawling now oliveoil my dd was only 12months when I fell pregnant and I had a section too. They only told me to wait 9-12months.

Oliveoil - panic not - ds is now 15 months and still not a sign of him walking on his own, He very rarely walks with someone holding his hand - he'll drop down to a crawl most of the time. I had hoped he might be walking by Xmas, but then I had hoped he would be walking by 1 yr

No, just going to see what happens. They said that I could have a 12 hour labour and then would have to have a section for next baby. Might be worth going for elective, not sure. Going to stick head in sand for now!

My daughter is walking now at 13 months but didn't crawl and took ages to do those things like rolling over etc. She was way behind in the motor skills dept. but is now a bit ahead of the others with her walking. I, on the other hand, didn't walk until nearly 2!!! My parents were getting v. worried. So maternal line doesn't seem to work. My experience with my gal so far is that she does things in little rushes, I mean she seems to be falling behind in something and then suddenly speedily catches up. I'm sure yours will walk as soon as they're ready. Those 3 little steps will become a mad dash to escape from you in the middle of the shopping centre while your hands are full of bags ... agh ...
