my brother didn't move until he was over 2 years old - no crawling, bum shuffling, walking, he just sat there - but he doesn't seem to have any problems getting around these days (now aged 28!). He was a huge baby too, and my poor mother had to carry him everywhere. Sounds like your dd is concentrating on other things and there's probably nothing to worry about. She'll do it in her own time.

My dd barely crawled, cruised when she was well over a year and didn't walk independently til she was 16 months. She too was happy sitting so long as she had plenty of toys nearby, or would sometimes move about by rolling, commando crawling or a variety of wierd and wonderful methods. She too was advanced in the more cerebral activities, talking very early.
She's now 6 and perfectly okay at walking, running, jumping etc, but still has an above age ability with talking reading, writing etc.
Give it a bit more time and she'll probably develop perfectly well at her own pace. Milestones are helpful, but can sometimes be worrying if your child is a bit slower than the textbooks say. Remember they are average ages, so some will be sooner and some later. If you're still unhappy in a month or 2 I'd see the HV again.

My dd1 was very similar - I worried too but she's now a brilliant walker.

Stressyhead, as you may have seen from other threads, mine is now 18 months and stll bottom shuffling, can't crawl, can't pull herself up etc. Best advice I have had so far has been my HV who said that if you can see some progression fortnight to fortnight, then she will get there in the end and there's not usually any cause for concern. Perhaps you could just monitor her progress over the next month and see how she goes?

My other three all developed at very different speeds, and very clear speech suggests your ds is concentrating on that skill instead. HTH

My daughter didn't walk until she was 21 months old but was talking like a 3 year old by then. She just decided she wanted to walk and got up from her liitle chair and walked acrooss the room. She didn't cruise vvery much and didn.t crawl but did a lot of bum shuffling.

my ds was the same; no crawling until 14 mths and then crawled for 2 weeks and walked. we didn't do anything; she just got up and did it. they are independent so and sos!! try not to worry about it

If she's concentrating on her launguage skills she probably can't concentrate on her walking too! That's what all my DD's therapists etc tell me. When she stops learning new words, she'll probably start thinking about getting around a bit more. Apparently they really only excel at one at a time, or at least it's common to be that way.
I wouldn't worry too much she's still so young. Loads of kids don't walk until much later but because loads do walk at a year, and younger, we all worry when our kids don't.

I understand you are worried becasue of your son and things the HV has said but I'm sure she's just working out how to communicate rather than get around.
