Please help! Decongestants for a 10 mo?

My DD has a terrible time at the moment as she can't breath due to a bad cold. She cries almost all the time, doesn't eat or sleep. I have been giving her Calpol and some drops for her nose but it is not getting any better (since last Saturday). Any suggestions? I'm also exhausted and want this to end...

Karvol capsules and steam worked for my DD around the same age. Also, depending how strong your stomach is, you can put your mouth around her nose and gently suck the snots out.

You can put Olbas Oil on a tissue in her bedroom but not too near. Check bottle / ask pharmacist.

Have you tried the nasal drops (saline solution)? i often use these on my ds when he has a cold and helps him to breathe making it easier to sleep and eat.
I also use baby vapour rub (boots own just as good and cheaper than vicks) on chest Nd back and a little on his feet before bed.
Sympathies from me, ds 9.5mo has just woken up with another cold and is refusing to eat or sleep. Fun day ahead it seems

By all means thank you! I try to give her the drops but she just screams and turns away making it hard to get anything in there! This has been a complete nightmare..

Yup it's not easy! We have a gadget from the pharmacy for clearing the nose - a kind of plastic think with with a tube you suck. It's awful, but fairly effective: we use a capsule of saline solution first and give a good squirt of that, then the sucker. One parent holds the baby still and one does the squirting/sucking. It's awful, but really helps DD to feed and then sleep when she's quite congtested. She's 10 mo as well by the way. We also do a little rub of a baby eucalyptus salve on the chest and we have homeopathic eucalyptus suppositories as well. They are made of natural oils I think. Don't ask me how they work, but they do seem to. They're not strong at all. One at night before going to sleep as well. Good luck with it all!

you can get saline nasal spray that might be easier to use than drops. I use a karvol vaporiser in the kids bedroom when they cant breathe and olbas oil on a tissue under the mattress (put in under the pillow when they are old enough for one)

Thanks all. I took her to the docs today and she has an ear infection as well which was completely unapparent . So, we are on antibiotics now and hopefully feeling better soon!
