Is it physically possible for a 12 day old baby to smile on demand?

Dd is 12 days old.
I always thought babies couldn't control their smiles or make themselves smile until about 6 weeks.
Dd is my 3rd dc. Both other dcs did the half asleep windy smiles when tiny and then smiled properly about 6 or 7 weeks.
Dd seems to be actually smiling in response to people when she is wide awake, not windy at all and does it when she is looking right at us talking to her.
She's done it enough times now to both me and dh that I'm starting to think she is properly smiling!
Is it possible?

DD1 smiled "properly" at 2 weeks. However having read all the books I was saying "Well it looks lovely but it must be wind". Then my dad came round and had a look and he said "erm no, she's smiling" which just goes to show trust your instincts, because she was. I have seen babies "smiling" with wind since and it is not the same.

My dad also remarked that DD1 was crying "real tears" at about the same age and I didn't realise what he was on about until I found out they aren't supposed to be able to do that either.

DD1 was 2 weeks overdue and I think that had something to do with it.

Yep, DD started smiling at about 10 days, she's still more cheerful than DS - maybe yours will be too, lol

yup, DD def had a smile on her face at around 2 weeks, enjoy your smiley baby!

DS is two weeks old and DH and I are sure he smiles at us! Nobody else believes it though.
