bottle feeding bigger babies

My dd was 8lb 12 at birth,and was 15 days late,she feeds about 7/8 bottles a day and has 5 oz bottles.The health visitors are saying she is feeding to much and to reduce one or 2 bottles,however already if she finishes a bottle she cries.any advice?iv tries the hungary baby milk and it just gave her a upset belly...help...doi listen to them or just feed her when she is hungary?

Have u tried a different kind of hungry baby milk? My DD was 9 13oz at birth and drank a crazy amount of milk for months. I demand fed though so just let her have what she wanted. When she got older I changed it so she only had water at night but that was much much older. From what I've been told there's no way a small baby can be greedy or overeat, they just take what they need.

DS1 was exactly the same, he was drinking 6 8oz bottles a day at 6 weeks old. From newborn he wanted fed every 2 hours for the first 6 weeks, it was very hard work. I used to feed when I thought he was hungry, which sometimes would be less than 2 hours.

Have you tried giving her 6 oz at her feed, will she take it and maybe go longer between bottles?

I would go with what you think is right.

re hungry baby milk, try introducing it slowly. So if you're making a 6 oz bottle, use 5 scoops newborn and 1 scoop hungry baby, then after a few days, increase the hungry baby and derease the newborn milk.

Should add DS1 was exactly the same weight as your DD when he was born.

I believe that if she's hungry, you should feed her. It's unlikely (but not impossible) that she'd take milk if she wasn't hungry. Recommendations are that babies are fed on demand.

Besides, if your DD was BF then neither you nor the HV would see how much she was having so I don't see how they can say how much is too much (I say this to illustrate that they just wouldn't know how much a BF baby would have so it shouldn't matter how much your DD is having, not judging your choice before someone jumps on me :))

I'm assuming you're doing the usual nappy/bored/tired check with her as well when she cries, rather than assuming she is hungry though, just in case something else is upsetting her? :)

Good point fliss - if you bf then no one can "have a go at you" or complain at the quantity that your DC eat. Very true.

Agree with points above but my DS2 cried after feeds - breasfeeding - and always wanted more. I realised after a while that he just wanted to suck, he was not hungry, it was for comfort. I assume the same can happen can happen to a bottle fed baby. I ended up giving him a dummy as I felt he was feeding too much too often. Some babies do cry after a feed, mine especially in the evenings.

I have to admit that 8 bottles of 5 oz looks a lot for a little baby.

I should of added its not everyday 8 bottles but normally 7.She doesnt sick any up so would think if she was for comfort she would sick up what she doesnt need.Doing the checking of bum etc but can tell her hunger cries,she literally goes crazy on my shoulder lol.May be a growth spurt as today she only had 6 bottles so maybe she will vary.
