Nappies to pants problem

I don't post for week and then questions come thick and fast....

DS is fine using the potty when he has no nappy or pants on. However, when we put pants on him, you can guarantee that he will wee in them within 5 minutes.

He got through 4 pairs by 10.30 this morning

Any tips to help him adjust or is it just a case of soldiering on until he gets the hang of it?

Neither of mine got dry without lots and lots of accidents. We just had to persevere & persevere....

Does he mind being wet? Do you scold him? Scolding sounds awful... but it works! I rewarded my boy with chocolate when he pooped on the toilet, which caused him to concentrate his mind even for wees. We managed to just reward DD with cheese biscuits for anything and lots of praise to get her to focus. Can you ask your boy to wee before you put pants on him? He must be assuming that pants are just like nappies and it's ok to wee there. Can you find a way to emphasise the difference to him? [This is one big plus to using cloth nappies, the child can easily feel difference between pants and a bulky cloth nappy.]

Just soldier on I think. I had this problem with ds2 who has now kind of got it (at least he has in familiar surroundings). He will now wet himself when wearing a nappy, but not when wearing pants (generally). I am now trying to be brave and try new surroundings, helped out by some incontinence pants which stop floods. (I wouldn't bother with training pants btw they still flood)

Instead of going straight from nappy to pants I put my ds in a very loose pair of shorts so everything was still dangling about and didnt give him the sense of security as a nappy. I started this at 23 months and on the day of his second birthday put him in pants and he's rarely had an accident since.

Thanks for the advice. Might try the idea of the shorts.

8 pants down at the mo and still counting.....
