How many words does your 9/10 month old know? What are they? Can they say any of them?

My 9.5mo can't say any words yet but I reckon he understands about 11 or 12

Grandpa
Aunty X
Dogs names x3
Doggy
Birdie
Booby
And possibly strawberry.

These words are a pretty accurate reflection of his interests. :o What about your dc?

Ds says mum-mum, dad-dad and book, and yesterday said apple (well abble) when I handed him mine to lick. His main obsession is pulling books of shelves, and I eat a lot of apples, so its not that surprising I guess. He definitely also understands 'bath'

He definitely does not understand 'good night, sleep well and we'll see you in the morning'

gincognito - no biting most definitely understood. Putting it into practice is a skill he has no clue about implementing, unfortunately

My almost 9 mth old can say Mum, Mamma, Dada and occasionally duck. Understands his name, bath time, splishy splash, duck, etc etc. I think he understands a fair bit. He babbles a lot and says Mum or Mama all the time.

He is also not yet crawling and I think will be another month or so off crawling. I don't anticipate him walking for a while yet - I just don't think he has the physical strength.

Mine is 2 next week and although he understands a hell of a lot, he doesn't really articulate well therefore I can't understand what he is saying much of the time. He can't say 'tuh' or 'suh' sounds yet so vocab has been a bit limited. I'm not worried, most of my NCT friends with dc the same age are at exactly the same stage.

DS4 is 9months, 3 weeks, can say Mammy/Mama, Daddy/Dada (at correct person), "Oh NO/ no" (when upset/sore), cuddle, ticktick (tickle), tick (clock), nose (while grabbing mine), triangle (knows simple shapes), Ada (for Adam, brother), so about 9 words. 4 really clearly.

Knows names of a few people, and himself (will look at correct one in response to "Where's X"), and a few things such as mirror, water, bath, nappy.

Claps hands when asked, or when happy. Does not crawl (does bottom shuffle a bit), pull him self up, or sit himself up, or walk or eat on his own....

There is a massive range of normal with all these things - some can walk at 7 months, some at 2years. Some are talking in sentences at 12 months, some at 3 years.

At 9 months DS could say Daddy, Mama (which, sadly, meant "dummy" not "mummy"), "duck", and "again". He could understand "boobie" "bye bye", "no", "yes" and a whole pile of other stuff.

At 13 months he can now say "thank you" and "dog", though he STILL calls me and the bottle and his dummy "mama", and babbles away in a completely nonsensical but clearly very complex language. And he understands pretty much everything we say to him - except he seems to think "mummy said no" means "yes, go on, chew the electrical cable! Please pull the standard lamp over!"

I have to say, I'm a bit sad that he doesn't know that I ALONE AM MAMA! :(

My dd fourteen months doesn't say any actual words but is talking jibberish all the time, pointing at things and waving.

She seems to understand alot though, walking with walker and crawling, cruising round everything!!

I think it really varies. At 9.5 months DS understood 'no', his name and probably a few other things, although it was hard to know what. His first word was around 12/13 months. At 19 months he has about 300, maybe more - I've lost count. Some other children I know in his age have no recognisable words - I think either is normal.

My 8mo has 2 words...Mama and Lola, who is one of our dogs!

I think she thinks that it means dog though, as she was delighted to shout it at a friends mutt at the weekend, who obligingly came over to reinforce the notion.

Yesterday I was slow in responding to her, so after calling Mama a couple of times there was a pause, followed by Lola! Lola! Lola! I think shes just trying out sounds that get reactions!
