Strange eye flickering in toddler

DS - 34 months, has been doing this strange eye flickering/twitching which is most noticeable while he is watch tv. Basically he just moves his eyes to the side and blinks. It is not frequent, but whilst watching tv, maybe every 5-10 secs. He also rubs his eyes sometimes after he does this.

I will make an appointment with the GP tomorrow, but was wondering in advance if anyone has experienced this before and what it could mean?

Googling seems to be worrying me - as possible reasons could range from epilepsy to tourettes .........

Thanks !

Does your TV screen need cleaning?

firsttimer08 · 15/08/2011 09:03

Probably not because he does it at other times as well i.e. when not watching tv - so sitting at the dinner table and will roll his eyes to the side and then blink. There is almost a rhythmic/involuntary pattern to it, as it happens with a systematic pause if that makes any sense.

Will be going to the GP tomorrow morning, so lets see what he says.

My DD does this because she has a slightly lazy eye due to being long sighted in one eye, I would organise an eye test.

he hasn't complained about not being able to see or anything. What are the markers for poor vision?

its very hard to tell in a child that age as they compensate well, you need to get him an eye test.

my DD has severe long sight in one eye and wont wear her glasses, you can hardly tell

Does the eye test have to be organised via GP or privately? How old is your dd?

I was wondering the same thing - how do you get a toddler to wear their glasses? Ours is really stubborn and has his own mind - we will have a real battle on our hands.

DH started wearing glasses very early as well and is severely long-sighted, so it does run in the family.....

DD is 4.10 but has severe SN. You should be able to get eyes tested at any optician

Sadly Dd is like a toddler and won't wear her glasses
