Changing a girl's nappy.... advice please!

I am getting used to having a DD (she's nearly 3 weeks old) and I know that one should pretty much just wipe the outside of her labia, but she's done a few poos recently and when pulling her legs open to get in the creases of the hip joints, I noticed some poo just inside her labia. Should I gently wipe a bit of damp cotton wool in there or just leave it? It seems odd to leave it. Thanks in advance!

Good idea to soak some cotton wool and try and wash it out by squeazing the water onto it.
I always used to worry that DD might get a bladder infection if I left it.

Noooo, don't leave it!You need to get it all out, or she'll get sore. Just gently wipe inside her labia as you say, with some damp cottonwool, till it's clean.

Ha, we all find what we're used to the easiest! Having 3 DDs, I have no idea where to start on changing little boys, and get nervous if friends with sons want me to babysit

Lol. My eldest is a girl and my second is a boy. I was horrified when I realised how much poo he stored behind his nuts.

Oh boys are so easy to change apart from the weeing in your eye thing!

I have a son and two daughters and even when DD2 came along, I still found changing pooey nappies quite a chore. With DS I just grapped a few babywipes and swished them around. I always had to be so much more careful and delicate with the girls.

And yes, to answer your question, definitely clean inside but only use cotton wool and water even when she's bigger to avoid infection.

Squeeze the cotton wool into a wedge shape and gently wipe until it comes out clean.

Or just dunk? Surely a quick rinse in a nice warm bath/sink/bowl of water is the easiest solution...you don't really want to be poking anything further in iyswim!
